[Award] Professor Chang-Hee Jang, 'Development of high-performance stainless steel for next-generation nuclear power plants' technology selected as KAIST's representative research achievement for future leading technology in 2025
Advanced nuclear power plants and fusion reactors (“next-generation nuclear reactors”)
operate under extreme conditions, such as higher temperatures and neutron irradiation levels,
compared to conventional nuclear power plants. This study developed an innovative stainless steel with
high-temperature strength and neutron irradiation resistance, which are essential properties for
structural materials in key components of next-generation nuclear reactors.
By optimizing composition and controlling nano-precipitates, the newly developed alloy retains
the advantages of conventional stainless steel while overcoming its limitations, making it highly promising
for widespread application in next-generation nuclear power systems.
