Dear respected professors of KAIST,

First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the professors devoted to education and research in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic, and wish you good health.

I have been elected as President of the 30th KAIST Faculty Council (교수협의회) for a two-year term, following the former President Prof. Do Kyung Kim. I would like to thank not only Prof. Kim but also previous presidents for their great effort and service during their terms.

In line with the expected changes in the university as the KAIST Council (KAIST 평의원회) was launched this year, the Faculty Council needs to respond to a number of activities. Because the term of the current KAIST President will end in February next year, the most imminent task at the moment is to select candidates for the President-elect, organized by the Faculty Council, and necessary actions should quickly begin. As mid- to long-term goals, we have multiple actions listed in front of us, such as re-establishing characteristics and status of the Faculty Council in accordance with the inauguration of the KAIST Council, improving welfare of faculty members, and devising necessary activities to boost our morale. I believe all faculty members have a common goal of making our university better in one’s own position. We, the Executives and Steering Committee, will actively communicate with the KAIST President and the professors in charge of duties and cooperate with the needs of the school to achieve the common goal.

Making our university better and enhancing faculty rights are in our very own hands. Your attention and active participation are the first step to make this happen.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Sincerely yours,

Wonho Choe

President of the KAIST Faculty Council (교수협의회)

Professor of Department of Nuclear & Quantum Engineering
