Prof. Kun Jai Lee who is an Emeritus professor of our department won the Academy Scientific and Technical Award at the 6th Nuclear Safety and Promotion Day Ceremony. Academy Scientific and Technical Award is an award that is given to people who have contributed to the development of science and technology through R&D activities, and have widespread authority and reputation of the country. Prof. Kun Jai Lee was appointed to our department in 1983 and served as the president of the Korea Radioactive Waste Society, Vice President of Research in KAIST, and the chairman of the Nuclear Energy Promotion Commission. He thus received this award for his contribution to the nuclear energy industry and science and technology development.
The award for Prof. Kun Jai Lee was presented at the 6th Nuclear Safety and Promotion Day Ceremony at JW Marriott Seoul on December 27, 2016, by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP). More than 400 officials from industry, academia, and research institutes attended the ceremony, including the Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Yang-hee Choi, the 2nd Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Tae-hee Woo, the Deputy Secretary General of Nuclear Safety and Security Commission Jong-Bae Choi, Jong-Kyong Kim of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and Myung-chul Lee of the Korea Radiation Promotion Association. At this event, which was held under the theme 'Safety Nuclear Power, Safe Korea', awards were given to 18 people for the contribution to the development of nuclear power.
